US Crypto Clarity Act Stalls in Senate Despite $225 Million Industry Lobbying Push

US senators will leave Washington without a vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, the first comprehensive US regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, Donya-e-Eqtesad reported, citing the Financial Times. The crypto industry has spent more than $225 million to influence Washington since the start of Donald Trump's second term, comprising over $185 million in political contributions plus more than $40 million in direct lobbying, based on Federal Election Commission filings cited by the Financial Times.
CoinDesk reported the same day that Senate Majority Leader John Thune has said a vote will now take place in September. Some Republican senators oppose the bill over bank concerns that customers could shift deposits into crypto accounts for higher yields, while Democratic senators have used it as leverage to press Trump to divest his personal crypto ventures; Trump earned more than $1 billion from crypto companies, including his own memecoin, in 2025.
