US Senate Postpones Vote on Crypto Market Structure CLARITY Act to September
7 August 2026 · 2 months ago
The US Senate postponed final action on the crypto market structure bill known as the CLARITY Act until after Congress's month long August recess, moving the vote to September. Arzdigital reported that the office of Senate Majority Leader John Thune confirmed on Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405) that Senate Democrats had refused to hold a vote before the August recess. The bill needs 60 votes to advance in the Senate, meaning it cannot pass without support from some Democrats, who are seeking stronger safeguards against potential financial benefit to Donald Trump from the crypto sector. Some Republicans, including Senator Josh Hawley, have also set conditions for their support.
Thune wrote on social platform X that the bill would be an immediate priority once Congress returns. Matt Hougan, chief investment officer at Bitwise, said the delay does not necessarily deal a fatal blow to the industry, though the regulatory uncertainty has made institutional investors more cautious.
