A trade duty discount of up to 15 percent takes effect for goods entering the Imam Khomeini Airport City free zone
2 August 2026 | 3 months ago
Mehdi Zoghi, manager of the Imam Khomeini Airport City free zone, said in an interview with Mehr News Agency published on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that a discount of up to 15 percent on the commercial duty applied to commercial goods entering the zone has become operational, and that the measure has been in force since the start of the current Iranian year in cooperation with the secretariat of the Supreme Council of Free Zones and the relevant ministry.
He added that, following enquiries with the legal deputy of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, the discount also covers strategic goods including cars and mobile phones. Commercial duty is one of the main components of import charges, and reducing it feeds directly into the landed cost of imports.
Zoghi said the zone, as the capital's only free zone, has been able to reduce costs for traders and businesses relative to mainland customs by drawing on legal provisions such as tax exemptions, warehousing discounts and the lower commercial duty. The remarks did not provide separate figures for the volume or value of goods covered by the discount.
