Agriculture Ministry Pledges to Settle Wheat Farmers' Arrears in Full by the End of Mehr

Akbar Fathi, deputy for planning and economic affairs at Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, said on Sunday, 27 September 2026 (5 Mehr 1405) that 8.5 million tonnes of wheat have been bought under the guaranteed purchase scheme so far, and that 350 trillion tomans of the 420 trillion tomans owed to wheat farmers has been paid. He said the remaining 70 trillion tomans will be paid by the end of Mehr (22 October), with guaranteed purchases continuing until then. The Targeted Subsidies Organization had put total payments at 348.4 trillion tomans on Saturday.

On rice, Fathi said domestic output this year reached about 2 million tonnes; of the 1.5 million tonnes that must be imported to cover the shortfall, half has already arrived and the rest is scheduled for the second half of the year. He added that crude cooking oil and red meat imports are proceeding as usual with the central bank allocating foreign currency.
