2 October 2026 · 5 days ago
According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing IRNA and Al Jazeera, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Thursday, 9 Mehr 1405 (October 1, 2026), that a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz had been struck by an unidentified projectile and caught fire. UKMTO said the crew's safety had been confirmed, but the extent of damage and any environmental impact remained unclear at the time of the report.

The same report said UKMTO had separately received a delayed, third-party report on Tuesday (7 Mehr) about a similar incident that occurred Monday night in the Strait of Hormuz. The organization advised transiting vessels to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity. Separately, the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) warned that some charterers were forcing vessels onto unapproved routes, a practice it said raises the risk of financial and human loss and could restrict the vessel's future transit through the strait.
