The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday, October 4, 2026 (12 Mehr 1405) that it had received a report of an incident inside the Strait of Hormuz. According to UKMTO, as reported by Al Jazeera and Iran's Mehr News Agency, a tanker reported being struck by an unidentified projectile that caused damage to its engine room. UKMTO said the vessel's crew are all safe and that no report of environmental damage has been received so far. The ship's identity and flag were not specified in the initial report. The incident adds to a series of attacks on tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz over recent months amid the escalation between Iran and the United States and Israel, a pattern that has sharply driven up war risk insurance premiums for vessels on this route.
