Araghchi discusses ways to reduce regional tensions with EU foreign policy chief

Eghtesad Online reported in the early hours of Wednesday 29 July 2026 that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the European Union's foreign policy chief held a telephone conversation. According to the report, ways of reducing tensions in the region were the focus of the call.
The contact follows a series of telephone consultations by Iran's foreign minister in recent days, including calls with his Japanese and Ukrainian counterparts reported by the same outlet and other media.
The diplomatic track is one of the key variables for Iranian asset markets. Over recent weeks, reports of easing or intensifying regional tensions have repeatedly coincided with swings in the open-market currency rate, the coin price and the direction of the Tehran Stock Exchange's main index.
