Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, rejected the existence of any 60 day deadline in the Iran US memorandum today, Monday, 26 Mordad 1405 (August 17, 2026). According to Donya e Eqtesad, he said the memorandum only provided for a 60 day window to discuss lifting sanctions and the nuclear issue, extendable if no result was reached, and that a serious US violation of the memorandum was what halted the talks.
The comments come as the initial 60 day window set under the Iran US memorandum, dated 27 Khordad 1405 (June 17, 2026), for talks on the Strait of Hormuz, the nuclear program and sanctions lapses today, Monday, 26 Mordad, without an extension or final agreement. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had also said on Sunday, 25 Mordad, rejecting claims of a temporary ceasefire, that the memorandum was designed from the outset to be durable.
