Binance.US to seek a CFTC licence to launch its own prediction market

Binance.US, the American arm of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, said it will file next month with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission for a designated contract market licence, in order to launch its own prediction market platform. The news was published on Friday, 31 July 2026.
Steven Gregory, chief executive of Binance.US, announced the decision at the Rare Evo conference in Las Vegas, and according to Bloomberg said: "We intend to apply next month for a designated contract market licence so that we can build out our prediction platform."
Prediction markets have grown quickly in recent months, with platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket drawing large numbers of users by taking positions on world events and sporting fixtures. Binance.US is not the only newcomer to the field: the Gemini exchange previously obtained a similar licence, and Coinbase has started a partnership with Kalshi. At the same time, New York's attorney general sued Kalshi last week, calling its prediction markets "illegal gambling", a sign that the regulatory status of this market remains unsettled.
Binance.US lost a large share of its market after the global Binance group was heavily penalised in 2023 over anti-money-laundering violations.
