Bitcoin Dips to About $80,700 as Over $1 Billion of Leveraged Bets Are Liquidated, Then Recovers Above $82,000

Bitcoin briefly fell to about $80,700 on Thursday evening, October 8, 2026 (16 Mehr 1405), before recovering above $82,000. Arzdigital, citing CoinGlass, reports more than $1.16 billion of leveraged positions were liquidated over 24 hours, over $1 billion of it long positions, hitting 166,769 traders. Ether was hit hardest: about $324 million of its positions were liquidated and its price dropped below $2,500, against about $240 million for Bitcoin. CoinDesk also described a roughly $1 billion liquidation flush that hit ether bets at six times Bitcoin's rate.
CoinDesk reported Bitcoin steadying near $82,500 on Friday after President Trump ruled out an Iran strike before the US midterms, still about 4 percent lower on the week, with ether down 9 percent. Sahmino's price feed showed Bitcoin at $83,151, up 1.7 percent on the day, at 15:57 Tehran time on October 9, 2026. Arzdigital, citing CryptoQuant, said short-term holders sent more than 50,000 BTC to exchanges at the peak of the move, about 59 percent of it at a realised loss. It also reported that the 12 US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $484.9 million of outflows on October 7, the largest daily withdrawal since June 25.
