Bond Yields Surge in US, Japan and UK; Global Gold Falls 1.8 Percent to 4,369 Dollars
1 September 2026 · last month
Global markets faced a jump in long-term bond yields in the first days of September, driving a wave of selling in global gold and silver. According to Ecoiran, reported Tuesday, 10 Shahrivar 1405 (September 1, 2026), the US 10-year Treasury yield rose 34 basis points to 4.78 percent, its highest level since January 2025. Live data from TradingEconomics at the same hour put the yield at 4.791 percent, consistent with Ecoiran's figure. Japan's 10-year yield reached about 3 percent, its highest in roughly a century, while the UK's 10-year yield climbed to 5.229 percent, its highest since 2008; TradingEconomics reported those yields at 2.996 percent and 5.223 percent respectively.
Ecoiran attributed the jump to hawkish remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole symposium and rising market odds, now above 66 percent, for a September Fed rate hike. In the wake of these moves, the global gold price fell more than 1.8 percent to 4,369 dollars an ounce, its lowest level since August 19. Sahmino's own price data at 3:59pm Tehran time showed spot gold down 1.76 percent at 4,370.32 dollars, consistent with Ecoiran's figure. Silver fell more than 3 percent to 64.5 dollars an ounce. US stock index futures also declined, with S&P 500 futures down about 0.6 percent and Nasdaq futures down more than 1 percent.
