According to China's state news agency Xinhua, as published by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Saturday, September 26, 2026, Xi Jinping and Donald Trump reached an eight-point consensus during the Chinese president's three-day visit to the United States from September 23 to 25. The third point says Iran must honour its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons and that no country or entity should impose tolls on international waterways.
Other points cover building a "constructive, strategic and stable relationship", endorsing a reciprocal tariff reduction deal worth "$30 billion" and the extension of the Kuala Lumpur trade consultation outcomes, counter-narcotics cooperation, and a dialogue mechanism on artificial intelligence whose next round is due in November. The White House also confirmed, according to Al Jazeera, that the two countries will open a bilateral communication channel for AI incidents. China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil.
