Hemmati: Point-to-Point Inflation Eases for the First Time in 15 Months
26 September 2026 · 10 days ago
Central Bank of Iran Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said on Saturday, September 26, 2026 (4 Mehr 1405) that point-to-point inflation, which had risen for 15 months since the 12-day war and reached 84.4 percent in Mordad 1405 (the month ending August 22, 2026), fell to 83.8 percent in Shahrivar 1405 (the month ending September 22, 2026). He put monthly inflation for Shahrivar at about 3.9 percent.

Hemmati said a monthly rate of around 4 percent is still high, but that despite pressure from the war, sanctions, the blockade and the inflation expectations they create, the central bank's control of liquidity growth has significantly slowed the pace of inflation, which had climbed sharply in the first months of the year. He added that the decline is small, but the fact that the point-to-point trend has turned down matters in itself, and the bank is focused on bringing it lower.
