The retail price of a tray of eggs in Tehran shops has climbed to about 590,000 tomans, and to around 500,000 tomans from street vendors, in recent days, a rise of roughly 100,000 tomans from two weeks earlier when the price had fallen as low as 450,000 tomans per tray. The figures were recorded in a Fars News Agency field report published Sunday, 25 Mordad 1405 (August 16, 2026).
According to the head of Iran's Mihan Poultry Farmers Union, input costs including feed, labor, insurance and taxes have risen for producers, and farmers are currently selling each tray about 40,000 tomans below their production cost. He put the real cost based price of eggs for consumers at 290,000 tomans per kilogram, equivalent to 580,000 tomans per tray, and said responsibility for regulating the egg market shifted from the union to the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad about eight months ago.
