FAO report: Iran ranks first in the world for saffron, damask rose and date production
26 July 2026 · 2 months ago
According to a Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) report relayed in Iran on Saturday, 25 July 2026, Iran ranked first in the world in 2024 for the production of saffron, damask rose and dates.
The same report places Iran second worldwide in 2024 for pistachios, apricots, peaches and nectarines, and third for quince, cherries and figs.
These crops are among Iran's significant non-oil exports. With access to oil-based foreign currency revenue constrained, their contribution to the country's external accounts has taken on added weight.
