Free CNG offered at 540 filling stations across Iran, with 1,000 targeted

The chairman of Iran's association of fuel station operators said on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, that 540 stations across the country are currently supplying CNG free of charge to gas-powered vehicles.
According to him, that number will soon reach 1,000 stations as other operators join the scheme.
The programme is running at a time when the country faces a fuel imbalance and constraints on petrol supply, and policymakers are seeking to shift part of vehicle fuel demand towards compressed natural gas. Petrol quotas and pricing have been a central subject of discussion between the government and parliament in recent days.
