The free-market dollar in Tehran reached 253,350 tomans on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 (7 Mehr 1405), crossing the 250,000-toman channel for the first time, according to Donya-e-Eqtesad. Live data from the gold and currency information network TGJU showed the dollar trading around 253,200 tomans in the same window, up roughly 3.4 percent from the prior close. At the same time, according to EcoIran, the Emami gold coin jumped nearly 7 million tomans in a single day to reach 253.2 million tomans, with 18-karat gold at 24.992 million tomans. EcoIran attributed the rally to market disappointment over the state of Iran-US talks on the Strait of Hormuz and the nuclear file. Earlier that same morning, the dollar had traded at 249,980 tomans, meaning today's jump unfolded in under six hours.
