A currency exchange in Tehran, as the free market dollar keeps climbing

The US dollar's free market rate in Tehran topped 255,000 tomans on the sell side by 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 (8 Mehr 1405), according to Alanchand.com, which quoted a buy rate of 252,550 tomans and a sell rate of 255,100 tomans. The rate had stood at about 253,000 tomans on the evening of Tuesday, September 29, and about 249,000 tomans on the morning of Monday, September 28, meaning the currency has climbed steadily over the past three trading days. At the same time, Donya e Eqtesad reported that the price of the Emami gold coin also rose on Wednesday to 255 million tomans. Analysts link the trend to the continuing rise in global gold prices and increased hedging demand in the domestic market.
