The Free Market Dollar Tops 249,000 Tomans in Tehran, Pulling Gold and Coin Higher

Tehran's currency and gold market extended its rally on Tuesday, 7 Mehr 1405 (September 29, 2026). According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, Tether (USDT) jumped to a fresh record of about 248,000 tomans early this morning, a move that, absent any clear signal of easing political tension, weighed on gold and coin trading from the start of the session.

Sahmino's own recorded data shows the uptrend continued through the day: the free-market dollar traded at about 249,500 tomans at 11:30, up nearly 2 percent on the day and roughly 8,000 to 9,000 tomans above Monday's (6 Mehr) range of 240,380 to 241,700 tomans. Tether stood at about 249,600 tomans at the same hour, up 2.14 percent on the day. The dollar's rise carried into gold and coin: the Emami coin traded at about 250,985,000 tomans (up 1.62 percent) and a gram of 18-karat gold at about 24,794,000 tomans (up 1.61 percent), while global spot gold rose a more modest 0.52 percent to $4,140.19 an ounce.
