The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) said in a report published on November 5, 2026, that insolvencies among German partnerships and corporations reached 1,683 in October, 9% more than a year earlier and 83% above the October average of the years before the pandemic. Mehr News Agency relayed the report on Friday, November 6, 2026. Jobs affected by the insolvencies of large companies rose to about 16,800, up 45% from September and 21% from October last year. About 9,400 of those jobs were in industrial production, the second-highest level since the survey began in January 2020, and about 6,500 were in Baden-Wuerttemberg, the highest on record. The institute noted that its leading indicators of insolvency have fallen in recent months and said it expects fewer cases in November and December.
