Government spokesperson: Iran's second petrol quota at 3,000 tomans cut from 70 to 50 litres

Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani, answering a question about petrol prices on Tuesday 6 Mordad 1405 (28 July 2026), said there would be no price change for quota petrol, and that any decision on non-quota petrol would be announced formally.
She set out the current structure: a first quota at 1,500 tomans a litre, fixed at 60 litres; a second quota at 3,000 tomans a litre, which stood at 70 litres during the war and has now been cut to 50 litres; and any consumption beyond that priced at the station rate of 5,000 tomans a litre. She said no settled decision had yet been taken on changing the station price. The government raised the station-card petrol price to 5,000 tomans in Azar last year.
Citing damage to petrol production infrastructure, Mohajerani said national output capacity had fallen and that Iran now produces 100 million litres of petrol a day, while part of its petrol is imported and requires foreign-currency allocation. Delivering a litre to the pump plus the station operator's cost runs at 3,000 to 4,000 tomans, she said, against a supply price of 1,500 tomans. Free dual-fuel conversion, CNG investment and faster scrapping of the ageing vehicle fleet were among the other consumption-management measures cited.
