Mohammad Shakibinasab, managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization, said on Monday, 6 Mehr 1405 (September 28, 2026), that new mechanized grain terminals have cut ship unloading times from about 10 days to roughly 2.5 to 3 days. According to Mehr News Agency, citing the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, he said that as some imported goods were rerouted from southern to northern ports, capacity at northern port berths, warehouses and yards was identified and put to use, with more than 55 percent of that surrounding storage capacity still unused.
He said unloading of essential goods at northern ports is up more than 90 percent year on year, other goods are up about 65 percent, and the northern ports' share of the country's essential-goods unloading has risen from about 18 percent at the end of 1404 to about 31 percent now. Port loading, unloading and cargo release operations are now conducted around the clock.
