Tehran Municipality Launches Six-Month Price-Freeze Distribution of 12 Staple Goods

Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani announced on Tuesday, 7 Mehr 1405 (September 29, 2026), at the Sadeghieh produce market, the start of distribution of 12 staple goods with prices fixed for six months. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, the items include rice, meat, legumes, pasta, soybeans, dates, sugar and cooking oil, available from today at 108 municipal produce markets across Tehran and, from Saturday, at 18 Shahrvand stores as well. Zakani said prices for these items will not change for residents for six months, with purchases possible both in person at the markets and stores and remotely through the Shahrzad platform with home delivery.

The mayor said three more items, chicken, tomato paste and cheese, will be added from Aban (starting late October), bringing the total to 15 items, and the number of supply points will double that month. Each household's quota is set by national ID and household size, for example two kilograms of rice and half a kilogram of meat per person per month.
