Hydropower Output Jumps 63 Percent to 14.8 Billion kWh in the First Half of 1405

Mohammad Allahdad, CEO of Iran's power grid company Tavanir, said on Saturday, September 26, 2026 (4 Mehr 1405) that hydropower plants generated 14.8 billion kWh in the first six months of 1405 (March 21 to September 22, 2026), up 63 percent from the same period a year earlier. Hydro accounted for 6 percent of the country's electricity generation mix over the period.

He said 65 MW of new hydro units are scheduled to come online for the 1405 cold season and 270 MW of new hydro capacity before the 1406 summer peak, with Unit 1 of the Khoda Afarin hydropower plant among the priorities. In a separate report the same day, the Energy Ministry said thermal plants generated more than 190 billion kWh from the start of the year to the end of Shahrivar, 110 billion kWh of it from combined cycle units.
