Under a notice from the Iran Mercantile Exchange's derivatives and new financial instruments department, reported by Boursenews citing Tasnim News Agency, the holding cap for legal entities (institutions) in the gold bullion certificate of deposit market falls from 6,000 kilograms to 1,000 kilograms (one million certificates, equal to one ton) from Saturday, 4 Mehr 1405 (September 26, 2026), until further notice.

The cap for individuals is unchanged at 400 million certificates, equal to 400 kilograms of bullion. Gold based investment funds and funds licensed as market makers in the instrument are exempt. Holders already above the new cap are not required to sell the excess but cannot increase their holdings through new trades.
Gold bullion certificates are one of the main vehicles for gold investment on Iran's capital market, and the change could affect how institutional investors operate in it.
