Iran Allows Customs to Take Bank Guarantees Instead of Cash for Import Taxes and Levies
28 October 2026 | yesterday
Mehr News Agency reported that Iran's cabinet has authorised customs to accept a bank guarantee instead of cash for value-added tax and associated levies on imported goods. The Trade Promotion Organization relayed the order to customs for implementation on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 (6 Aban 1405); the cabinet resolution is dated October 21, 2026 (29 Mehr 1405).
The measure allows the guarantee option for a two-month period ending with the current fiscal year. It changes how taxes and levies are secured at clearance; Mehr's report does not say the tax has been abolished or that import duty rates have been cut.
