Iran and Belarus Agree to Remove Currency Barriers and Expand Banking Cooperation

A delegation from Iran's Central Bank, led by Hossein Kashiri, director general of international relations and cooperation, held four days of talks with Belarusian officials from September 29 to October 2, 2026 (7 to 10 Mehr 1405) on removing barriers to monetary and banking relations between the two countries. According to Mehr News Agency, citing the Central Bank's public relations office in a report carried on Sunday, October 4, a key outcome of the meeting was agreement on a stable mechanism for regular joint meetings between the two countries' central banks, commercial banks and financial institutions. Kashiri told the talks that Iran's banking structure and financial institutions are ready to attract direct investment from Belarus and said Belarusian banks could join Iranian commercial and economic projects. The meeting was held to upgrade specialized financial relations between the two countries and expand bilateral financial channels.
