Iran fires missiles toward Jordan's port of Aqaba; Jordan says it intercepted six
22 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Around midday local time on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, several missiles were fired from Iran toward the port city of Aqaba in southern Jordan, on the Red Sea. Jordan's military said it intercepted and destroyed six missiles, with two falling in uninhabited areas, and that it also intercepted several drones; no casualties were reported. The target was said to be US linked facilities in Aqaba.
The strike was described as part of Iran's response to an 11th consecutive night of US airstrikes on Iranian territory. The war spreading toward the Red Sea keeps a war risk premium on global oil and gold, the same force that has lifted Brent above 90 dollars and gold above 4,100 dollars an ounce in recent days and fed through to Iran's currency and gold markets.
