Jordan's army confirms intercepting five missiles fired from Iran
29 July 2026 | 3 months ago
A spokesman for Jordan's army said on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405), that the country's air defences had that morning dealt with "five missiles coming from Iran targeting the kingdom's territory", and that the missiles were intercepted and downed. It is Amman's first official confirmation of an attack that the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps and US Central Command had each described from their own side.
The IRGC Aerospace Force command said in a statement early on Wednesday that a US air base and a US military command centre in Jordan had been struck by ballistic missiles. US Central Command said all the missiles launched were intercepted. Axios had earlier reported, citing a US official, that ballistic missiles had been fired toward a US military base in Jordan.
According to the Associated Press, this is the first reported Iranian attack on an American target since US President Donald Trump announced a halt to strikes following two weeks of fighting. The escalation or easing of military tension in West Asia has in recent weeks been among the most direct variables bearing on the risk premium in global oil prices and on expectations in Iran's domestic currency market.
