Iran Mercantile Exchange said on Saturday, 17 October 2026, that after a carpet maker's request, exchange executives and Iran Carpet Company officials examined the possibility of offering handmade carpets in the physical market through auctions and commodity depository receipts. Exchange chief Seyed Javad Jahromi said variation in design, dimensions and quality complicates standardisation, but mechanisms for admission could be developed.

According to the official account carried by Mehr, Iran Carpet Company's warehouse in Karaj was discussed as a possible storage site. The review does not mean carpets have already been admitted to the exchange or that receipts have begun trading. The scheme still depends on final admission and offering requirements.
