ISNA carried the announcement, and Donya-e-Eqtesad, EcoIran, Khabar Online and Boursenews also reported it. Najaf airport had stopped accepting Iranian flights from the early hours of Friday, 25 September (3 Mehr), a few days after Baghdad airport dropped out of Iran's flight network following US aviation sanctions on Iran. On Saturday, 26 September (4 Mehr), al-Hajjaj told Iraq's official news agency that the suspension of flights was "temporary and transient". The Najaf route is one of the busiest foreign routes for Iranian airlines.
