The Central Bank of the Islamic Republic of Iran has made a centralised system called Hesam available to citizens, with the aim of organising the network of bank accounts held by individuals. Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405) that the system lets users see the list of their accounts at different banks on a single platform, separate active accounts from dormant ones, and decide whether to keep or close them.
According to the report, after identity verification the user gains access to a full list of their accounts, including interest free savings, current, short term, long term, commercial and non commercial accounts, and can transfer the balances of surplus accounts to a chosen account without visiting a branch.
The stated aims of the system are to reduce surplus accounts, increase transparency in the banking network and make it easier to manage accounts remotely. The report says cutting the number of abandoned accounts can help counter money laundering and prevent the renting out of bank accounts, and at the macro level can improve the quality of banking data and the accuracy of liquidity statistics.
