Mostafa Rajabi-Mashhadi, deputy minister of power and energy at Iran's Energy Ministry, said in remarks reported via ISNA on Thursday, 22 Mordad 1405 (August 13, 2026), that the country's power supply restrictions will be fully resolved within three to four weeks, and possibly sooner. He said about 2,500 megawatts of capacity have been added to the grid over the past year from new thermal plants and the removal of constraints at existing ones, bringing peak daily generation capacity to nearly 68,000 megawatts. Iran's power supply gap, which peaked at around 20,000 megawatts in the 1403 Iranian year (2024/25), again brought scheduled blackouts to parts of the country from late July this year. Rajabi-Mashhadi said solar power capacity has grown from about 1,250 megawatts at the start of the current administration to around 5,800 megawatts. The energy ministry is also offering a 30 percent discount on the full billing period to subscribers who cut their electricity use by at least 10 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.
