Iran's Gasoline Officially Moves to Three Price Tiers from 23 July; "10,000-Toman Petrol" Rumor Denied
25 July 2026 | 3 months ago
From 23 July 2026 (1 Mordad 1405), Iran changed its gasoline rationing structure and personal fuel cards officially moved to three price tiers. According to officials at the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company, a "third layer" priced at 5,000 tomans has been added to personal fuel cards, alongside the earlier 1,500 and 3,000 toman rates.
At the same time, a widely circulated rumor of a rise in the gasoline price to 10,000 tomans from 1 Mordad was officially denied. A spokesman for parliament's Energy Commission stressed that the government had raised no such plan with parliament and that no official announcement of a general gasoline price increase has been issued. What has taken effect is a change in the distribution structure and the addition of a new price tier, not an across-the-board price rise.
