According to Iran's Statistics Center, reported by EcoIran on Sunday, September 20, 2026, the country's GDP contracted 10.1 percent including oil and 4.6 percent excluding oil in spring 1405 (the quarter ending late June 2026) compared with the same period a year earlier. Industry and mining fell 14.7 percent and services fell 4.8 percent, while agriculture grew 2.3 percent. Economist Ali Sarzaeim told EcoIran the contraction should not be seen as a one off shock, since Iran's economy remains under sanctions and trade restriction pressure, part of which has so far been absorbed through firms' inventories and reserves. He warned that without political and economic openings to ease sanctions, production conditions could worsen in coming months.
