Iran's Import Price Index Posts 159.4 Percent Annual Inflation in Spring 1405

Iran's rial-based import price index reached 3,853.0 points in spring 1405 (roughly April-June 2026), up 55.1 percent from the previous quarter, 146.3 percent year-on-year, and 159.4 percent on an annual basis over the four quarters ending in spring 1405, according to a Statistical Center of Iran report carried by Mehr News Agency on Monday, October 5, 2026. The highest quarterly inflation, 73.5 percent, was recorded for the "wood and wood products" group, while the highest annual inflation, 181.6 percent, was in "machinery and mechanical appliances."

In dollar terms, the same index showed a much smaller 25.1 percent annual inflation rate, highlighting the rial's depreciation as the main driver of import price growth. The Statistical Center said the figures are preliminary, based on provisional customs data, and will be revised once final customs figures are released.
