Iran's industry minister: Iran and Pakistan are on the path to $10 billion in trade
4 August 2026 | 3 months ago
Iran's minister of industry, mine and trade said in remarks published on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026 (12 Mordad 1405) that the two countries' 10th joint economic commission is a step towards reaching $10 billion in trade between Iran and Pakistan, referring to the aims of his visit to Pakistan.
Technical committee meetings between the two sides began in Islamabad on 12 Mordad, and trade consultations are continuing with representatives of economic bodies taking part. The $10 billion figure is a target stated by the two governments, not the current level of trade.
Expanding trade with Iran's eastern neighbours has taken on added weight for the Iranian economy while sea routes are constrained and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is disrupted, since overland border trade becomes an alternative channel for exports and imports.
