Statistical Center of Iran: the country's population has passed 87 million
4 August 2026 | 3 months ago
According to the Statistical Center of Iran, in figures published on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026 (12 Mordad 1405), the country's population has passed the 87 million mark. The centre described Iran's population trend over the years 1396 to 1407 in the Iranian calendar as rising, and projected that the population will reach 88 million within two years.
The 88 million figure is an official projection rather than a recorded statistic. The 87 million figure is the level stated as of that date.
Population data underpin calculations of per capita energy consumption, housing demand, the subsidy basket and government budgeting, so a revision feeds into housing market estimates and support programmes.
