Iran's tax administration says corporate tax collection rose about 25% in spring, below the 35% growth in total tax revenue

4 August 2026 | 3 months ago

Mehdi Movahedi Beknazar, spokesperson for Iran's National Tax Administration, said in an interview with Mehr News published on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405) that data for the first three months of the Iranian year show total tax revenue up about 35% year on year, while tax collected from businesses, legal entities and companies rose about 25%. He said the gap shows the administration has reduced its focus on collecting tax from economic operators.

Movahedi Beknazar added that, taking inflation into account, which he put at at least around 50%, the growth in tax collected from the production sector was both below the inflation rate and below the growth in total tax revenue, meaning a significant part of the tax burden has shifted to other areas. He attributed part of the revenue increase to curbing tax evasion and part to higher prices, whose effect shows up in value added tax, and also pointed to growth in property tax.

According to the spokesperson, in recent years tax revenue has funded about 48% to 50% of the government's general budget at maximum capacity. He described the administration's policy under wartime conditions as supporting production units and placing the least possible pressure on economic operators.
