Iran's tax authority says data mining flagged 3,686 specialist doctors and 861 gold sellers

Seyed Mohammad-Reza Ahmadi, head of the inspection, anti-tax-evasion and anti-money-laundering centre at Iran's Tax Administration, said in a report published early on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405) that smart algorithms and data mining had identified 3,686 specialist doctors who were filing under the tax code for general practitioners. The same checks also flagged 861 gold sellers.
He said 6,689 premium or first-grade women's salons had opened tax files under codes for lower grades, 151 licensed salons had filed under activity codes carrying a lower profit coefficient, and 318 women's salons with significant non-commercial account turnover had no tax file at all. In addition, 1,477 taxpayers with commercial registration were using only non-commercial codes, and 826 were using at least one non-commercial code.
The tax code (intacode) is a unique identifier for each economic activity in the tax system, and each activity carries its own profit coefficient. Ahmadi said the authority's priority in these cases has been to press taxpayers to correct their codes.
