Japan's Metaplanet Sold 10,000 Bitcoin and Immediately Bought Back 11,000 More
6 October 2026 · 2 days ago
Metaplanet, one of Japan's largest corporate bitcoin holders, cashed out 10,000 bitcoin worth 124.7 billion yen (about $790 million) and shortly after bought back 11,000 more for close to 150 billion yen, according to its third-quarter financial report cited by ArzDigital. The company said the move was meant to demonstrate to credit rating agencies and debt-market investors its ability to quickly liquidate its bitcoin holdings; the proceeds exceeded its roughly 122.4 billion yen in combined net debt, bonds and financial obligations, though those liabilities were not settled. The transaction left Metaplanet's bitcoin reserves at 44,000 units by the end of September 2026.
