IRGC fires ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan; CENTCOM says all were intercepted
29 July 2026 | 3 months ago
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired several ballistic missiles at 5:45 p.m. US Eastern time on Tuesday (about 1:15 a.m. Tehran time on Wednesday, 7 Mordad 1405) at American forces stationed in the region, in what it described as an attempted surprise attack. According to the command, all the missiles were intercepted and US forces remain at a high state of readiness.
According to US media reports citing a US official, no more than four missiles were launched, and the target was a US military base in Jordan. It is Iran's first ballistic missile attack on an American base in the region since Donald Trump paused US strikes on Friday, a pause announced to give diplomacy a further chance. As of the time of this report, no immediate official response to the US announcement had been published by Tehran.
The episode leaves the fragile pause of recent days at risk of unravelling. Energy markets reacted immediately: Brent crude rose in Wednesday's trading after falling in three consecutive sessions.
