Kremlin: Putin Conveyed Iran's View on a Possible Settlement to Trump, in Coordination With Pezeshkian

10 October 2026 | 10 days ago

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today, Saturday, October 10, 2026 (18 Mehr 1405), according to Interfax, that Vladimir Putin held two meetings with Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States summit in Turkmenistan. He said that in one of them Putin informed the Iranian president of his upcoming phone call with the US president and then, "in coordination with the Iranian president, conveyed the Iranian side's view on a possible resolution of the conflict to Trump". The Interfax report does not specify what that view was. Peskov added that Putin also took part in a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Iran and Azerbaijan.

Al Jazeera's live coverage of the US-Iran war carries the same account, citing the Kremlin. It does not clearly contradict Peskov's earlier remark on Friday, October 9 (17 Mehr), that Pezeshkian sent no "message" to Trump: that statement concerned the sending of a message, while today's account describes Putin relaying Iran's view in coordination with Tehran. The reports used for this item record no official Iranian reaction to the claim. The matter is relevant for markets because a diplomatic route to ending the war bears on the exchange rate, gold and oil prices.
