Mohsen Rezaei, the newly appointed secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, wrote in his first statement on the Strait of Hormuz since taking the post, on the evening of Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405): "Iran's message is clear: the Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until the United States ends the war and the blockade, releases Iran's frozen assets, and the war across the region, including in Lebanon and Gaza, ends." According to Khabar Online, he added that the strait will remain closed until all these conditions are met.
According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, Rezaei repeated the same three conditions, ending the war, releasing Iran's frozen assets, and ending regional conflicts, the same day in a meeting with China's ambassador to Tehran. The comments came as, according to Oilprice.com, Brent crude rose about 1.12 percent to $88.70 a barrel shortly after 1pm US Eastern time the same day, following the remarks.
