National Petrochemical Company: 60 Percent of War-Damaged Capacity Is Back in Production

28 September 2026 · 9 days ago

Omid Shakeri, chief executive of the National Petrochemical Company, said on Monday, 28 September 2026 (6 Mehr 1405), on the sidelines of the signing of memorandums for the "Energy Pulse" campaign, that about 60 percent of the petrochemical capacity lost in the war has so far been restored and returned to production. He said the damage had hit utilities and some specific processes, and that rebuilding continues at the two main hubs of Asaluyeh and Mahshahr with the aim of bringing back a significant part of the remaining capacity by the end of the Iranian year.

Shakeri also warned of feedstock constraints this winter, saying about 230 million cubic metres of the gas industry's processing capacity had been lost and, although part of it has returned, shortages remain. He added that petrochemical exports and the repatriation of their foreign-currency proceeds continue under central bank oversight, though the blockade has created problems for exports.
