NIOC Chief: Flare Gas Recovery Has Tripled to 15 Million Cubic Metres a Day

26 September 2026 · 12 days ago

Hamid Bord, managing director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), told Mehr News Agency on Saturday, 26 September 2026, that recovery of associated petroleum gas (flare gas) has risen from about 5 million cubic metres a day to 15 million, an increase he described as 300 percent. Under contracts signed with the private sector, he said, a further 21 million cubic metres a day is due to be added by the end of the Iranian year (March 2027), bringing the total to 36 million cubic metres a day.

Bord added that with the NGL 3100 plant in Dehloran now running, all associated gas in that area is being collected, and that a new project to gather 200 million cubic feet of associated gas will open soon. He also said oil and gas output continues despite wartime conditions, exports are ongoing and petrochemical feedstock is being supplied on time. He asked the public to cut energy use by 10 to 15 percent to get through the winter, since some refineries were damaged in the war.
