Persian Gulf Waterway Authority: Vessels Violating Hormuz Rules Face Fines or Detention
24 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Iran's Persian Gulf waterway management authority said on Monday, Shahrivar 2, 1405 (August 24, 2026), that vessels violating Iran's announced arrangements for transiting the Strait of Hormuz will face restrictions on subsequent voyages, including fines, detention or confiscation. According to Ecoiran, the notice said vessels using ship to ship transfers, transshipment or other methods to cooperate with sanctioned vessels on Iran's list would also be added to the list of violators. The warning follows a string of Iranian measures to control Hormuz transit; hours earlier, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee had approved charging passing ships for navigation, refueling, insurance and safety services. Further details on penalty amounts or an enforcement timeline have not yet been announced.
