11 October 2026 | 9 days ago
Roads and Urban Development Minister Farzaneh Sadegh, outlining the results of her two-day trip to Turkmenistan as reported by Mehr News Agency today, Sunday 11 October 2026 (19 Mehr 1405), said that under the agreement reached, construction of the Gamdagh-Atrak road will begin within the next one to two months. The project will be built on Turkmen territory with an Iranian company as contractor and, in the minister's words, could ease the passage of Iranian truck drivers and improve road links between the two countries. According to the ministry's announcement, the Turkmen side also sees the route as one of the needs of developing its own road network.
Sadegh also said progress has been made on border terminals, particularly rail ones, and that given Turkmenistan's role in moving cargo into Iran, expanding this cooperation matters. She said agreements had also been reached on energy, with results expected in the near future, and that trilateral cooperation among Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, as well as coordination with Russia, was discussed on the sidelines of the trip.
The report gives neither the project's cost nor technical details; the start date is stated only as a plan, on the minister's word.
