Russian Duma Energy Official Says He Knows of No "Energy Ceasefire" Trump Announced; Zelenskyy: Kyiv Will Agree If Moscow Does

Igor Ananskikh, deputy chair of the Russian State Duma's energy committee, said late on Sunday, 19 Mehr 1405 (11 October 2026), that he has no information about the "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine that Donald Trump announced earlier. Quoting RIA Novosti, he added that the statement may have been made to contain global oil prices, since Trump often makes "verbal interventions" to stop oil prices from rising. EcoIran, citing ISNA, reported the remarks.
Trump had claimed in a Truth Social post that an energy ceasefire was in effect "immediately". Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Axios the announcement was news to him, but that if the Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree too. He had earlier pressed for a full sixty-day truce.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, responding to Trump's call for a change of leadership in Ukraine, said Moscow does not insist on any particular person in Kyiv and that what matters is whether the Ukrainian side shows the political will to accept realities on the ground. On Monday, 20 Mehr, a data provider wrote that Brent had slipped toward 103 dollars and listed the energy ceasefire claim among the market factors.
