Jafar Mohammadnejad, SATBA's deputy for investment and development, said at the same event that, despite constraints, the country's current solar capacity has passed 6,150 megawatts and that the Energy Ministry and SATBA are planning to expand it to as much as 30,000 megawatts. He added that most of the new capacity will come from on-site "branch" plants, meaning generation at the point of consumption, and that the payback period for private investors is estimated at three to four years. These figures are statements by SATBA officials and the announced capacities have not been independently verified.
